The Power And Benefits Of Wisdom

Proverbs 3

Happy is the man that findeth Wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.

Wisdom is more precious than rubies, and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.

Length of day is in her right hand, and in her left hand riches and honour.

Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her, and happy is every one that retaineth her.

The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth, by understanding hath He established the heavens.

By His knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.

My son, let not them depart from thine eyes, keep sound wisdom and discretion.

So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.

Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.

When thou lies down, thou shalt not be afraid, yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.

For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.

Say not unto thy neighbour, 'Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give', when thou hast it by thee.

Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.

Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.

For the froward is abomination to the Lord, but His secret is with the righteous.

The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked, but he blesseth the habitation of the just.

Surely He scorneth the scorners, but He giveth grace unto the lowly.

The wise shall inherit glory, but shame shall be the promotion of fools.

Judge not that ye not be judged

St Matthew Chapter 7

Judge not, that ye not be judged.

For with judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye meet, it shall be measured to you again.

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but consideredst not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Or how wilt thou say to thy brother: Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine eye?

Thou hypocrite ... first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Give not what is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before the swine, lest they trampled them under their feet, and turn and rend you.

Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

For everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened.

Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will give him a stone?

Or if he ask a fish, will he give a serpent?

If ye, then, be evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask Him?

Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them; for this is the law and the prophets.

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go thereat.

Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inside they are ravening wolves.

Ye shall know them by their fruits.  Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

Ever so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

Every tree that bringeth not good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Satan Tried To Tempt Jesus

St Matthew Chapter 4

Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He was afterward an hungred.

And when the tempter came to Him, he said: 'If Thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.'

But He answered and said: 'It is written ... Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Then the devil taketh Him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto Him: 'It Thou be the Son of God, cast Thyself down ... for it is written that He shall give His angels charge concerning Thee; in their hands they shall bear Thee up, lest at any time Thou dash Thy foot against a stone.'

Jesus said unto him: 'It written again ... Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.'

Again, the devil taketh Him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; and saith unto Him: 'All these things will I give Thee, if Thou wilt fall down and worship me.'

Then saith Jesus unto him: 'Get thee hence, Satan; for it is written ... Thou shalt worship The Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.'

Then the devil leaveth Him, and behold, angels came and ministered unto Him.

Christ Begins His Sermon In The Mount

St Matthew 5

Blessed are the poor in spirit ... for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn ... for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek ... for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness ... for they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful ... for they shall receive mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart ... for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers ... for they shall be called the children of God.

Blessed are they which are percecuted for righteousness' sake ... for their's is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are ye when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of  evil against you falsely, for My sake ... rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under the foot of men.

Ye are the light of the world.  A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick: and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets:  I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
